Anne was one of my best buddies in our younger years. We played competitive softball together. I have so many fun softball stories I still remember vividly. Anne was so competitive and had the meanest arm around. Playing burnout with her was out of the question. We were also on the University of Memphis (Memphis State) tennis team together. We thought we were hot stuff. My older sister played double tennis in a ladies Germantown league just for recreation. She asked Anne and me to play her and her partner. We thought we would go show them a thing or two. WRONG! We tried to overpower them with our ground strokes but their little dinky-well placed shots were too much for us. We were so embarrassed being beaten by some Germantown ladies who weren’t the athletic types at all.
Anne was a great athlete and a wonderful person. She was kind to everyone she met. Anne had only one fault I can think off. She was she was so hard on herself. We all saw her as pretty darn great at whatever she did. We will all miss her. If Jesus has a softball team in heaven Anne is right there all smiles. She knows on this team there will no errors or strikeouts. A perfect game every time.
Anne was one of the kindest and giving people I have ever met. She never met a stranger and would do anything she could to help someone in need even if it meant that she would do without. I am sure that God has a very special place in Heaven for Anne as she loved the Lord with all her heart. Annie also loved little animals and had many precious memories of little dogs that came into her world. The world is a better place because of Anne and thousands of her students are a testament of her love for education. Anne had many wonderful friends who loved her very much and who she loved as well. I thank the Lord for having had the opportunity to know this incredible and loving woman.
My sincere condolences to Anne's family and especially to her dear friend, Nancy Bergeron.
Anne and Nancy were very supportive of me during my five year quest for my college degree at Memphis State University as it was then known. I still treasure their graduation gift to me: my diploma, beautifully framed and matted in the MSU colors of blue and gray along with a lovely card that I still have.
i have only good memories of Anne and her ever-present beautiful smile.
Peace be with you, Anne.
